ADVANCE OPEN WATER DIVER COURSE

Once you have completed your PADI Open Water diver course, the real fun begins! Explore more specialized forms of diving and develop your skills further through different PADI's Adventure Dives here in Singapore. Classroom lesson time and studying are minimal so you can spend more time diving.

 

The Advance Open Water Diver Course is designed to ultimately build your confidence and help you develop capabilities as you find new ways to have fun with scuba diving. Under the supervision of your PADI Instructor, you can try out different specialties to gain new experience or perfect your skills.

Course Prerequisites:

  • 12 years old or older

  • A PADI Open Water Diver (or qualifying certification from another training organization)

Course Schedule

The focus will be on diving because the PADI Advanced course is about diving (not about studying). You’ll plan your learning path with your instructor by choosing from a long list of Adventure Dives. There are two required dives – Deep and Underwater Navigation – and you choose the other three, for a total of five dives.

Knowlege Development

When you sign up for the PADI Advanced course we’ll email you an online copy of the PADI Advanced Open Water manual. Your PADI Instructor will check your answers and review them with you. Your Instructor will give you a complete briefing before each dive, and will give a thorough debriefing after each dive. Most importantly, your Instructor will share the insider tips and tricks they have learnt over the years.

Two Required Dives

  • Deep
    what you’ll learn: Deep dive planning, buddy contact procedures and buoyancy control. Managing your gas supply, dealing with gas narcosis and safety considerations.

  • Navigation
    what you’ll learn: Navigation using natural clues and compass headings, methods to estimate distance underwater. How to find your way back if you get lost.

Three Adventure Dives

  • Drift
    what you’ll learn: About drift diving equipment – floats, lines and reels, and about the causes and effects of currents. Techniques for staying close to a buddy and how to find the boat at the end of the dive.

  • Boat
    what you’ll learn: Boat terminology. Boat diving procedures, etiquette and special entry and exit techniques. Safety considerations for diving from boats.

  • Underwater Naturalist
    what you’ll learn: About the fish, plant and corals you see while diving. How to interact with them and identify them.

  • Peak Performance Buoyancy (PPB)
    Hint: a great choice for less experienced divers
    What you’ll learn: How to set your dive equipment so you’re perfectly balanced in the water. Streamline to save energy, use air more efficiently and move more smoothly through the water. Hover effortlessly in any position.

  • Night
    what you’ll learn: Flashlight handling. Night diving communication techniques. Entering, exiting and navigating in the dark. Identifying how plants and animals that change behaviour at night.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are there any hidden charges not stated?

Absolutely no! We don’t like last minute negative surprises hence we won’t spring any on you too.

 

Am I able to request a room to myself?

Sure! We will do our best to make special arrangement for you subject to availability at the destination resort.

However, in most cases, there will be a surcharge if you are requesting for a room to yourself. Please check with us on the charges.

 

Do I need to sign up with a partner?

You don’t have to. We will arrange another diver embarking on the same course to be your buddy. In the unlikely event that you are the odd one out, your dive buddy will be your trusty Instructor or Divemaster.

 

Do I need to know how to swim?

Watermanship is needed to overcome scenarios that you may face while at sea. You don’t need to be a top athletics in swimming but basic skills and stamina are recommended. Don’t let this be a hurdle for you to start learning scuba diving! Speak with us on this.

 

How soon can I sign up for the course?

You are recommended to start as early as possible. You will need to go through a theory session prior to the confined pool hence the sooner you start, the earlier you can get into the water!

 

I am a vegetarian, will there be any food catered specially?

Rest assure that there are many options available for green lovers at the resort. Just let us know in advance so we can arrange the meals for you.

 

What is the student to instructor ratio?

We adhere to a 5 students to 1 instructor ratio. In the event that we have extra students, we will at our discretion increase another dive professional assisting the group.
